“Never Be Ashamed of Your Hustle
Never Be Ashamed of Your Hustle: My Journey from Selling Ice Blocks to Employment.
A personal story of resilience, faith, and humble beginnings proving that no hustle is too small when your heart is determined to rise.
In life, we all start from different places, but one thing remains true is survival requires courage.
Never be ashamed of how you make money. Whether it’s formal or informal, the goal is simple: to survive, to grow, and to move forward.
When I was on school breaks during Uni days, I dreamed of getting a part-time job. I reached out to organisations and companies, hoping someone would take me in but no one ever did.
So, I made a choice: if no doors opened, I will create my own doors so that I can have the keys myself.
I stayed home and started selling ice blocks and juice. Some days I made less than K20, but it was something enough for me to buy a flex card and keep searching for job adverts online.
People talked. Some even confronted me and asked,“Bai yu painim wok tu o nogat?” I’d smile and reply with confidence, “Mi putim paper, bai yumi orait.”
Those words became my daily motivation. I refused to give up.
Eventually, my patience paid off. I was able to secured a job. It’s not my dream job, but it’s an opportunity, and I’m grabbing it with both hands.
Because at the end of the day, a job is a job. It’s a stepping stone toward something greater.
Today, I look back and thank God for every moment, the rejections, the ice blocks, the juice and of course the questions, and the long days of hope. They all shaped me into who I am.
So to anyone out there hustling right now, don’t feel small. Don’t feel less.
Your hustle has value. Your effort matters. The little things you’re doing today will open doors tomorrow.
Keep your head high, stay humble, and keep moving.Because your time is coming.
Every success story starts with a humble beginning. Don’t let people’s opinions discourage you. What matters most is your heart, your determination, and your faith that better days are ahead.
